Dr. Simon Best is an Associate Professor of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and a surgeon and clinician at the Johns Hopkins Voice Center. His main clinical and research career focus is Human Papillomavirus (HPV)-related diseases, particularly Recurrent Respiratory Papillomatosis (RRP). He maintains a large surgical practice focused on RRP, seeing patients from across the country with this rare disease, is a leading member of the national RRP Task Force, and works with international RRP patient organizations to bridge the gap between patient care, clinical innovations, and basic scientific research. He also leads a laboratory that approaches the clinical and immunologic puzzle of RRP from multiple angles, from epidemiological work all the way through to basic immunology.
In addition to his work with RRP, he is a busy voice and airway surgeon, and an expert in laryngeal cancer, airway stenosis, transgender voice care, surgical interventions for swallowing, and office-based laryngology. He is a member of the Triological Society, American Laryngological Association, American Broncho-Esophagological Association, International Association of TransVoice Surgeons, and the International Papillomavirus Society. |
