Fiona McIver is a Paediatric Nurse Practitioner with 26 years of nursing experience, beginning her career in intensive care and progressing through roles including flight nursing, ECMO Nurse Specialist and ICU Nurse Specialist.
Six years ago, Fiona joined the Paediatric ENT team at Starship Hospital, where she has played a key role in developing and advancing the Nurse Practitioner role within paediatric ENT. Her clinical interests include children with complex airway conditions with a strong focus on multidisciplinary, family-centered care. Fiona completed her Master of Nursing in 2023 with a focus on the development of the Starship Aerodigestive Programme, bringing together multidisciplinary teams to improve care coordination for children with complex airway, breathing, swallowing and gastrointestinal needs. |

She runs independent Nurse Practitioner clinics and works across the hospital, supporting children and their whanau throughout their journey from clinic assessment through to discharge. Fiona has a strong interest in communication and collaborative practice and is a member of the medical mediation team at Starship Hospital. She is passionate about integrated care and improving the experience and outcomes of children with complex healthcare needs.
