Dr ​Hannah Burns

Dr. Hannah Burns is a Paediatric Otolaryngologist at Queensland Children’s Hospital and a partner at Northside ENT in Brisbane, Australia. She completed advanced specialty training in otolaryngology in Queensland, earned her fellowship in 2008, and further specialized in Paediatric ENT at Evelina Children’s Hospital, London. 
 
Dr. Burns serves as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland and the Queensland State Supervisor for Otolaryngology training. She co-developed and leads Australia’s only paediatric airway course, fostering innovation and skill-building in the field. Her research spans critical studies, including neurocognitive benefits of adenotonsillectomy in preschoolers and high-flow oxygen therapy in paediatric airway surgery. 

In her editorial capacity, Dr. Burns is the Editor-in-Chief of the Australian Journal of Otolaryngology and contributes to global discourse through peer-reviewed journals. Passionate about enhancing professional communication, she is the founder of a worldwide paediatric otolaryngology WhatsApp group, which connects practitioners globally to share knowledge, challenges, and innovations in real time. 
 
Dr. Burns is also a staunch advocate for button battery safety and has driven legislative changes to improve child safety standards. As Secretary of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Paediatric Otolaryngology, she champions diversity and supports women’s leadership in otolaryngology. Recognized with the ASOHNS Society Medal for Distinguished Contribution to Otolaryngology, she is a respected academic, teacher, and global thought leader in paediatric ENT care.
