Hon. Professor Amanda Oakley

Senior General Dermatologist, Health New Zealand Waikato, Hamilton, NZ
Amanda Oakley is a dermatologist based at Waikato Hospital. She is an honorary professor of the Department of Medicine at the University of Auckland, based at the Waikato campus. Her research interests include teledermatology and teledermoscopy, which have led to the early diagnosis of skin cancer and a reduction in unnecessary excisions of benign lesions. She is best known for the creation of DermNet, the online dermatology resource, for which she has received numerous awards. Dr Oakley is committed to teaching registrars, general practitioners, and anyone who will listen, particularly on the topic of dermatoscopy—an essential tool for every medical practitioner.

The Diagnosis of Melanocytic Lesions

This presentation will introduce the clinical and dermoscopic features of benign and malignant melanocytic lesions (naevi and melanoma). It is intended to help with the early diagnosis of cutaneous melanoma of the head and neck and to reduce the unnecessary excision of naevi. Pre-reading would be useful - there are many introductory texts online or you could supply an LLM with suitable prompts. Ownership of a dermatoscope is not required to attend but I hope to inspire you to purchase one.

The Diagnosis of Non-Melanocytic Lesions

This presentation will introduce the clinical and dermoscopic features of benign and malignant nonmelanocytic lesions (keratoses, vascular lesions and basal and squamous lesions). It is intended to help with the early diagnosis of head and neck skin cancer and reduce the unnecessary excision of benign lesions.  Pre-reading would be useful - there are many introductory texts online or you could supply an LLM with suitable prompts. Ownership of a dermatoscope is not required to attend but I hope to inspire you to purchase one.
